DB2 for LUW DBA Tools (Revision #64)

The new database administration tools for DB2 for LUW include the Instance Manager, Storage Manager, Security Manager and Session Manager.

Instance Manager

Instance Manager

The Instance Manager provides a consistent interface to manage a DB2 for LUW server instance. You can quickly view and modify server parameters and server version information, including:

• System Configuration – View server component values.
• Registry Parameters – Displays all DB2 registry settings.
• Database Parameters – Lists all DB2 database configurations.
• Database Manager Parameters – Captures and displays all DB2 Server Database Manager configuration parameters.

Storage Manager

Storage Manager

The purpose of the Storage Manager is to help you visualize and maintain storage parameters for DB2 for LUW databases.

• Allocate Space – A new option to allocate space to Table spaces, Buffer Pools and Data files.
• Tree View – Lets you see the entire database structure in a tree view of objects, including Table spaces, Buffer Pools and Data files with the path, size and usage of each.

Security Manager

The Security Manager is a new feature for DB2 UDB, and provides a simple view of Users and Roles. Specifically, this is designed to help you:

• Create, alter, drop and view Users and Roles on a server.
• View authorities for Users and Roles.
• View database access, such as Table space and Schema privileges, for Users and Roles.
• Generate permissions for Users and Roles across all objects in a database.
• Provide a simple tree view of Users and Roles.

Session Manager

Session Manager

The Session Manager is also new for DB2 UDB. It is designed to help you manage database sessions, including user and system locks, and quickly identify locks and avoid unnecessary overheads. The following parameters are captured:

• Sessions – Shows sessions as a tree; you can also view session details, the current statement being executed, and the execution plan.
• Session Statistics – View session details and session parameter values.
• Locks – View details for User Locks and System Locks.
