MySQL DBA Tools (Revision #41)

New DBA Tools for MySQL, includes Instance Manager, Storage Manager, Security Manager and Session Manager.

The Instance Manager provides instance-wide server statistics and information.

• Variables – MySQL global and session variable values
• Status - System-wide global and session usage statistics are listed here.
• Charsets - Character encodings available on the server.
• Collations - Character encodings available on the server
• Plugins (starting MySQL 5.1) - Components installed on the server .

Storage Manager is Aqua Data Studio’s latest feature which contains information about the amount of data contained in the database.

• Databases – You can see the total storage used in each individual database.
• Engines – All the Database Engines available in this instance are listed here.
• Table Status - Individual table summaries with usage breakdowns are displayed.
• Open Tables - Tables currently open are shown here.

Security Manager is another new feature in MySQL which provides a simple view of Users.  This is designed specifically to

• Create, alter, drop and view Users in a Server.
• Provide a simple tree view of Users and Roles.

Session Manager is Aqua Data Studio’s latest feature which provides manageability of database sessions including user and system locks. This tool can quickly identify locks and avoid unnecessary overheads. The various parameters that are captured in this tool are

• Sessions - shows Sessions as a tree.  You can view Session Details and Current Statement which is getting executed.
• Monitoring – You can see Session details and KILL Sessions.
