Many developers have the need to send or receive compressed files and sometimes require file encryption. Depending on the platform, several steps are required to compress or decompress files. Encryption adds another layer of complexity, and developers have to deal with the context switch overhead from swapping amongst several applications. Aqua Data Studio now has a Compress Tool for quickly compressing and decompressing both unencrypted and encrypted files directly from the GUI, regardless of the operating system.

Compress Tool TAR.GZ or Zip |
Compress Tool Drag and Drop |
The Compression Tool can be accessed via the Application Menu - > Tools - > Compress Tool and provides a GUI for creating/viewing archives, adding and removing files and encrypting their contents. Encryption schemes for 128, 192 and 256-Bit AES Encryption are supported, allowing password protection for compressed files. The Compress Tool functions like many commonly available Zip and archive utilities, presenting file and archive contents and properties in a grid with Name, Type, Path, Modified, Size, Packed, Ratio and CRC. Files can be Opened, Extracted, Extracted to Archive, and Encrypted. Keyboard Shortcuts for the Compression Tool are available with File->Options->Key Mappings->Compression Tool.
The Compress Right-click Context Menu
Files in the Files Browser and Projects Browser can be single or multiselected for compression via the right-click menu "Compress" to quickly generate archives or zip files.
Create an Archive, then Encrypt it
First, select items you want in the archive. Then right click on them and choose Compress from the context menu. Give the file a name and click OK. Once the archive is created, double click it within the Files Browser to view its contents in the Compress Tool. Once you see its contents in the list, click the Encrypt icon at the top of the list view in the toolbar. Select the encryption scheme and enter the desired password, select a new name and destination (if needed) and click OK.
