We've enhanced our Parameter creation and editing mechanism to make it easier to insert and edit the values you need in your parameters. You can now get access to list dropdowns and range input sliders. We also support Parameterized Queries inside of Visual Analytics allowing you to dynamically change the parameter values used in the query.
Now, when a Parameter is created in Visual Analytics, you select its Data Type and choose from Allowable values of All, List and Range. This dialog is a new UI that allows more customization of the parameters you use in Calculated Fields, and makes it more convenient to enter the parameters you need.
Selecting All allows entering any value in the resulting Parameter Control deck via a text input field. This choice functions as our parameters did in our original Visual Analytics release, providing a text input box for entry and display in the Parameter Control deck.
Selecting List allows entering a custom list of values which then appear in the Parameter Control deck via a dropdown to facilitate picking one from your list. You can set the current value from your list, click to add a list item, or click Clear All to start a new list from scratch.
When a parameterized query is executed in Query Analyzer and used as a data source in Visual Analytics, we automatically create a parameter and set its value to the value used in the query. This gives you the control you need to get the query results you want in your Visual Analytics workbooks. If you use the Edit Query dialog we let you insert new Parameters, or use preexisting ones from your visualization.
Selecting Range is possible for Float, Integer, Date and Date Time values, allowing you to enter a Minimum value, a Maximum value and a Step Size. The Minimum and Maximum values restrict what the Parameter Control deck will accept as input values. Step size increments the value entered by a specified amount, either up or down, to achieve the nearest acceptable value. If Date or Date Time data types are used, the step size can increment in units of years, quarters, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes or seconds.
