Google BigQuery Enhancements

With Aqua Data Studio version 18.0, we have enhanced our BigQuery database support. We now support Google BigQuery Standard SQL syntax along with several new data types. Data import time has significantly reduced from hours to seconds after adding support for batch mode in the Import Data Tool. In addition, you can now view non-flattened results in Legacy SQL for repeated fields.

Standard SQL Support

We now support BigQuery Standard SQL syntax. To use Standard SQL Syntax, uncheck Server Properties > Advanced > SQL Version - Use Legacy SQL check box.

UNNEST Support in Query Builder

Query Builder now supports Standard SQL syntax and offers support for UNNEST to view flattened results.

New Data Types

Four new data types have been added in this release. They include DATE, TIME, DATETIME and  BYTES.

Data Location Support

Aqua Data Studio now offers a Data Location option while creating a dataset. You can choose between US, EU or unspecified.

Import Performance Optimization

With Aqua Data Studio version 18.0, the INSERT syntax has been enhanced to insert multiple records in a single INSERT statement. This enhancement significantly reduces the amount of time Aqua Data Studio takes to import a large amount of data into BigQuery.

In Aqua Data Studio version 17.0, importing 10,000 records took 1 hour 6 minutes. You can now import the same number of records in 8 seconds via Batch or Threshold transaction mode.

The Transaction Type tab has been added to the Import Data Tool and offers three different modes - Full, Batch, and Threshold.

View Non-Flattened Results

Flatten Results option has been added to provide you the option to view flattened or non-flattened query results for repeated fields in Legacy SQL.
