Redesigned Editors

Aqua Data Studio version 18.0 adds significant usability and functional enhancements to all our editors. The editors offer enhanced Status, Annotation, and Marker bars, streamlined Find and Replace functionality, changing font size (zooming) in active editor, and Punctuation completion features such as automatic completion of brackets and quotes. The HTML and XML editors also provide improved breadcrumb functionality. Lastly, the editors support a redesigned Print dialog.

Status Bar

Line Separator

Aqua Data Studio now enables changing the line separator directly from the Status Bar. For new files, Aqua Data Studio uses the newly introduced Line Separator for New Files setting.

Encoding

You can now change the file encoding directly from the Status Bar. Upon opening a file, Aqua Data Studio determines the encoding using a multistage approach. It saves a file using the encoding specified in the Status Bar.

Go to Line

The enhanced Go to Line option displays the cursor at the user-specified line and column number.

Code Folding

Code folding offers the ability to collapse and expand code blocks to make it easier to navigate your code inside an editor. In addition, Aqua Data Studio supports user-defined folding for arbitrary blocks of code. The code folding toggles  and reduce the code block to a single visible line. On mouse-hover of the collapsed code, the code appears in a tooltip.

Change Font Size (Zooming)

To change the font size (zoom) in the active editor, press CTRL and rotate the mouse wheel forward to increase font size and rotate the mouse wheel backward to decrease font size. You can also bind keyboard shortcuts to increase, decrease and reset font size. This option can be enabled from File > Options > General > Appearance > Change font size (Zoom) with CTRL+Mouse Wheel.

Paste History

Aqua Data Studio improves its Paste History functionality by displaying the content you copied from external sources in the Paste History dialog.

Print Dialog

The new Print dialog offers a tabbed view and more printing options.

Find and Replace

The new streamlined Find and Replace interface enhances usability such as using the keyboard up and down keys for navigating the results.

Annotation Bar

The right-click action in the Annotation Bar now includes three new options; show whitespaces, show indent guides and use soft wraps. These options allow you to toggle white space characters, see vertical indent lines to facilitate script structure, and wrap longer lines exceeding the editor window to the next line.

Lens Mode

On hovering the mouse on a warning/error band in the Marker Bar, the new Lens Mode shows the code fragment to which the warning/error band applies.

Punctuation Completion

Brace and Quote Completion for SQL, AquaScript, Java and JavaScript Editors

Aqua Data Studio adds support for punctuation completion for block and scope identifiers such as double quotes, parentheses, braces, and square brackets. After you type an open identifier, the editor automatically adds a matching closing identifier and places the cursor between the two identifiers.

Enhancements for XML and HTML Editors

Aqua Data Studio adds support for automatic tag closure and auto-updating tag attributes. After typing an opening tag, such as <div>, the automatic tag closure feature automatically adds a matching closing tag, </div>. On updating the opening tag attribute, the auto-updating feature updates the closing tag attribute automatically.
 
In the HTML Editor, the Breadcrumb Trail has been enhanced to show color coding for the nested elements. Breadcrumb Trails have also been added to the XML Editor.

Copy to Clipboard in HTML Format

Aqua Data Studio copies text to the clipboard in both RTF & HTML formats. Web applications such as Gmail now preserve syntax highlighting and formatting when pasting data into these applications.
