Registering a Database Server (修訂 #0)

Once you have installed Aqua Data Studio you will need to register your servers before you get started. Server Registrations are created, edited, grouped, connected to and disconnected from most easily through the Schema Browser.

Launching the Register Server Dialog

There are three methods of registering servers, all of which launch the Register Server dialog.

• You can navigate to the Main Application Menu to Server, then select Register Server
• You can right-click in the Schema Browser to bring up the context menu and select Register Server
• You can also click the Query Analyzer Icon at the top left of the Main Application window

All of these launch the Register Server dialog, which lets you fill in the properties of the server you are attempting to connect to.

The properties of any registered server can be viewed and altered by right-clicking on a server in the Schema Browser and selecting "Server Properties."

Server Registration Dialog Defaults

There are defaults set for the different RDBMSes within the Register Server Dialog, depending on the database vendor and version chosen. In most cases it is good to use these defaults. There is some variation in how different database types are registered and it is important to have the correct drivers. For more information on drivers see the "JDBC Drivers" section.

Using Server Registrations Copied From Other Users

It is  possible to register servers by using a configuration copied from another user. The servers from a copied configuration will populate the schema browser, but passwords will have to be entered within the properties of each one. Passwords do not copy when configurations are duplicated. See the "Configuration & Connection Files" section for more information on sharing and portability of Aqua Data Studio configurations.

Steps to Register a Server in Aqua Data Studio

New Server Group	Group Name	Register Server	Enter Server Details	Server Registered	Connect

To Register a Server :

• Create a new Server Group in the Server Node
• Right Click on the Server Group - A Popup Menu Appears. Click on the Item which displays Register Server
• Select the RDBMS Driver. Specify a name. Enter Authentication details, Host and Port.
• Once the Server is successfully registered, it appears in the Server Group Node. You can now Connect to the Server and view the Schema Objects

Select the Database Server you want to connect to and use the keyboard combination "Shift + INSERT" to quickly create a Clone of the Server

Troubleshooting Registrations

User name & Password	Click on Test Connection	Driver

If you face any problem during Server Registration, there might be a few things which you are doing wrong:

• Check the User name and Password. Most problems are solved by if you enter the correct authentication information.
• Perform connection diagnostics - Click on the Test Connection button.
• Ensure that you have selected the correct RDBMS Driver initially.
• Make sure that the Database Server to which you are trying to connect Aqua Data studio Client is up and running.

At the bottom right corner of every Server Properties and Server Registration window is a Test Connection button. Clicking on Test Connection will provide detailed information on the connection and offer helpful tips on what may be causing problems with your server registration. The Test Connection dialog contains a direct link into the documentation for the JDBC driver for that connection type, a Copy message and detail button, and a view details button. If you need to get in touch with AquaFold about a specific connection issue, click the Copy message and detail button and include this information when contacting AquaFold Support.

The title at the top of the Register Server, Edit Server and Server Properties dialogs indicate the RDBMS driver (the server type) in brackets, followed by a hyphen and the connection name in brackets to assist in trouble shooting. If you are not sure what connection type you are using, take a look at the title text.

For example, a connection to an Oracle 11g server, with the name "My Connection", would appear as the following in the dialog title:

[Oracle 9i/10g/11g] - [My Connection]

Check the ’Remember Password’ check box and you may quickly connect to a Server without having to type in the authentication every time you Connect.

How to Edit Server Properties

To Edit the Server Properties of an already Registered Server, in Aqua Data Studio :

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser.
• Right Click on the Server - A Popup Menu Appears.
• Click on the Item which displays Server Properties.

You can change Server Properties like

• Name.
• Type.
• Tab Color.
• Authentication.
• Location - which includes Host and Port.

You can also edit Filters for Schema and Folders, Advanced Properties and Permissions.

Using the Keyboard combination "CTRL + SHIFT + P", you may quickly edit Server Properties.

How to Register a Server Clone

Clone - Main Menu	Right click Server	Specify Name

To create a Server Clone of an already Registered Server in Aqua Data Studio

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser.
• Right Click on the Server - A Popup Menu Appears.
• Click on the Item which displays Register Server Clone.
• Once you provide a new name for the clone, a new Server is registered.

You can now connect to the newly registered Server and perform Data Manipulations.

Using the Keyboard combination "SHIFT + INSERT", you may quickly create a Server Clone.

Using Aqua Data Studio to Connect to a Server

Locate the Server	Select the Database	Popup	Green Icon - Connected

To Connect a registered Server

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser
• Select the Database
• Right Click on the Database Server - A Popup Menu Appears. Click on the first Item which displays Connect
• Once the icon changes to display a green triangle overlay icon, you are connected to the Server. You can expand the tree node to view the Schema Objects. Numerous tools like Query Analyzer, Query Builder, and ER Modeler become available to assist with your operations

Select the Database Server you want to connect to and use the keyboard combination "CTRL + INSERT" to quickly Connect to the Server

Using Aqua Data Studio to Disconnect from a Server

Locate the Server	Right Click - Popup	Disconnected

To Disconnect a registered Server :

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser
• Select the Database Server you want to Disconnect
• Right Click on the Server - A Popup Menu Appears. Click on the second Item which displays Disconnect
• Once the icon changes tfrom the green color and the tree node is collapsed, you are disconnected from the Server

Select the Database Server you want to disconnect and use the keyboard combination "CTRL + DELETE" to quickly Disconnect from the Server
