6. Secure Shell - SSH Tool in ADS (Revision #8)

Aqua Data Studio includes a SSH Environment - an interactive Unix-like command line interface. SSH is used for remote login and secure communications with remote servers over unsecured networks. The SSH interface is integrated in the IDE and utilizes all Aqua Data Studio GUI capabilities such as customized tabs, search functions, keyboard mapping, docking framework and Shortcut Toolbar shortcuts.

Registering a Server

This is very similar to how database servers are registered. Once you have installed Aqua Data Studio you will need to register your servers before you get started. There are three methods of registering ssh servers, all of which launch the Register Server dialog

• You can navigate to the Main Application Menu to Server, then select Register SSH Server
• You can right-click in the Schema Browser to bring up the context menu and select Register SSH Server

All of these launch the Register SSH Server dialog, which lets you fill in the properties of the SSH server you are attempting to connect to.

The properties of any registered SSH server can be viewed and altered by right-clicking on a server in the Servers Browser and selecting "Properties."

It is  possible to register servers by using a configuration copied from another user. The servers from a copied configuration will populate the schema browser, but passwords will have to be entered within the properties of each one. Passwords do not copy when configurations are duplicated. See the "Configuration & Connection Files" section for more information on sharing and portability of Aqua Data Studio configurations.

Server Registration in Aqua Data Studio

New Server Group	Group Name	Register Server	Enter Server Details	Server Registered	Connect

  To Register a Server :

• Create a new Server Group in the Server Node
• Right Click on the Server Group - A Popup Menu Appears. Click on the Item which displays Register Server
• Select the RDBMS Driver. Specify a name. Enter Authentication details, Host and Port.
• Once the Server is successfully registered, it appears in the Server Group Node. You can now Connect to the Server and view the Schema Objects

Tip : Select the Database Server you want to connect to and use the keyboard combination "Shift + INSERT" to quickly create a Clone of the Server

 

Troubleshooting Registrations

User name & Password	Click on Ping	Driver

If you face any problem during Server Registration, there might be a few things which you are doing wrong :

• Check the User name and Password. Most problems are solved by if you enter the correct authentication information.
• Perform Socket connection test - Click on the Ping button.
• Ensure that you have selected the correct RDBMS Driver initially.
• Make sure that the Database Server to which you are trying to connect Aqua Data studio Client is up and running.

Tip : Tick the ’Save Password’ check box and you may quickly connect to a Server without having to type in the authentication every time you Connect.

 

How to edit server properties

 
To Edit the Server Properties of an already Registered Server, in Aqua Data Studio :

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser.
• Right Click on the Server - A Popup Menu Appears.
• Click on the Item which displays Server Properties.

You can change Server Properties like

• Name.
• Type.
• Tab Color.
• Authentication.
• Location - which includes Host and Port.

You can also edit Filters for Schema and Folders, Advanced Properties and Permissions.

Tip : Using the Keyboard combination "CTRL + SHIFT + P", you may quickly edit Server Properties.

 

How to register a server clone

Clone - Main Menu	Right click Server	Specify Name

 To create a Server Clone of an already Registered Server, in Aqua Data Studio:

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser.
• Right Click on the Server - A Popup Menu Appears.
• Click on the Item which displays Register Server Clone.
• Once you provide a new name for the clone, a new Server is registered.

You can now connect to the newly registered Server and perform Data Manipulations.

Tip : Using the Keyboard combination "SHIFT + INSERT", you may quickly create a Server Clone.

 

Using Aqua Data Studio to connect to a Server

Locate the Server	Select the Database	Popup	Green Icon - Connected

 To Connect a registered Server :

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser
• Select the Database
• Right Click on the Database Server - A Popup Menu Appears. Click on the first Item which displays Connect
• Once the icon changes to green color, you are connected to the Server. You can expand the tree node to view the Schema Objects. Numerous tools like Query Analyzer, Query Builder, ER Modeler aids in assists with your operations

Tip : Select the Database Server you want to connect to and use the keyboard combination "CTRL + INSERT" to quickly Connect to the Server

 

Using Aqua Data Studio to disconnect a Server

Locate the Server	Right Click - Popup	Disconnected

 To Disconnect a registered Server :

• Locate the Server in the Server Browser
• Select the Database Server you want to Disconnect
• Right Click on the Server - A Popup Menu Appears. Click on the second Item which displays Disconnect
• Once the icon changes tfrom the green color and the tree node is collapsed, you are disconnected from the Server

Tip : Select the Database Server you want to disconnect and use the keyboard combination "CTRL + DELETE" to quickly Disconnect from the Server
