Field-Specific Charts (Revision #27)

Aqua Data Studio 7.5 has an enhanced Charting Toolkit. The following new Chart Types are introduced in this version:

• Scatter chart - You can now display values for two variables for a set of data as a collection of points. This enhancement in ADS 7.5 displays each point, having the value of one variable determining the position on the horizontal axis and the value of the other variable determining the position on the vertical axis
• Bubble chart - A bubble chart displays a set of numeric values as a circles. It is especially useful when the values differ by several orders of magnitude. ADS 7.5 displays data values that differ by a ratio of 100,000 and can display hundreds of individual values at once
• Open-high-low-close chart - Stock market users will find this type of chart useful to depict prices with a open-high-low-close chart. This takes a 3 data series (High, Low, Close)
• Candlestick chart - You can now use a variation of bar chart to describe price movements of an equity over time. This type of chart plots a 5 series data (Open, Close, Low, High and a relative plot to the prior periods' prices)

Working with Candlestick Charts

The basics

To give you a brief idea about the candlestick chart, create the table and use the sample test data given towards the end of this page. Open a Query Window and type the query Select * from [dbo].[Stock] and enable Charting Tool. Select the Candlestick Chart Type.

Candle Definition

1. Candlesticks are used to show stock price
2. Each candlestick shows the stock's high, low, opening and closing prices. The wick shows the stock's high and low prices
3. The body of a candlestick shows the stock's opening and closing prices
4. A day is an up day if the closing price is greater than the opening price
5. The body color is used to flag if it is an up day (GREEN) or down day (RED)

Working with Open-high-low-close Chart

The basics

Run a query in Query Analyzer and enable Charting Tools. Select Open High Low Close Chart. High-Low-Close plots are used to show stock prices.

Open-high-close Chart

1. In a high-low-close plot the vertical line represents the high and low values over one unit of time.
2. The close value is represented by a "tick" to the right. The open value, if present, is represented by a tick to the left.
3. If today's close is higher than yesterday's close - the bar is colored green/blue.
4. If today's close is lower than yesterday's close - the bar is colored red.
5. If today's close is equal to yesterday's close - the bar is colored the same as yesterday.

Working with Bubble Charts

The basics

Run a query in Query Analyzer and enable Charting Tools. Select Bubble Chart.

Bubble Chart

A bubble chart is a two-dimensional scatterplot where a third variable is represented by the size of the points.

1. In a high-low-close plot the vertical line represents the high and low values over one unit of time.
2. The close value is represented by a "tick" to the right. The open value, if present, is represented by a tick to the left.
3. If today's close is higher than yesterday's close - the bar is colored green/blue.
4. If today's close is lower than yesterday's close - the bar is colored red.
5. If today's close is equal to yesterday's close - the bar is colored the same as yesterday.

 Working with Scatter Charts

Run a query in Query Analyzer and enable Charting Tools. Select Scatter Chart.

Scatter Chart

A scatter chart is used to map correlation between sets of numbers. The scatter chart allows you to create a chart showing one piece of information, such as market capitalisation, along the x-axis and another piece of information, such as P/E ratio, along the y-axis

1. The scatter graph consists of plotted points "scattered" around an X-Y grid. The pattern may reveal a relationship between the two variables measured by the X and Y axes (or, in 3D form, among the three variables measured by the X, Y, and Z axes). In 2D scatter graphs, you can illustrate trends in the plotted points by adding a regression curve
2. Scatter graphs can chart multiple data sets, each represented by a different symbol, each having any number of data points
3. In defining a scatter graph, you usually supply an X position for each data point
4. In 2D scatter graphs, you can display scatter plots alone, curves alone, or both together
5. In 3D scatter graphs, you can connect points in the same set with a continuous line. You can also drop a vertical line from each point to the floor of the cage
