How to Make a Treemap Chart

A simple Treemap Chart is created by dragging a Measure in the Rows deck and dividing it into areas by dragging Dimensions into the Chart Properties Break and Color buttons. Treemap Charts are useful for showing hierarchical data by representing it as nested rectangles.

1. Execute a select * from bistudio_example within the query analyzer on the bistudio_example.xlsx file

2. Click the [Visual Analytics] icon in the Query Analyzer Grid Results toolbar.

3. Select Treemap from the Chart Properties dropdown.

4. Drag Freight from the Measures Pane to Rows.

5. Drag Territory from the Dimensions Pane to the Break and Label buttons in the Chart Properties.

6. Drag Sales Reason from the Dimensions Pane to the Color and Label buttons in the Chart Properties.

The order that you drag dimensions into the Chart Properties Break button determines the groupings in the Treemap. It is possible to change the groupings in the Treemap Chart Properties by dragging the Breaks into a new order.
