10. Import and Export Tool Enhancements

Enterprise environments demand importing and exporting data from hundreds of databases often with vastly different data format requirements. Getting data from a specific database vendor, server and version to another is an around the clock necessity. The larger the amount of data transferred, the greater the need for import and export automation. Data imports and exports can get so large that they overwhelm system resources if not properly managed and segmented and they often require the entire process to be restarted. This version's Import and Export Tool Enhancements tackle these problems via new configurable transaction types, improved IO performance and one-click options for AquaScript Generation.

Configurable Transaction Types

The Import Tool now provides configurable transaction types to optimize import performance and to throttle load to the database server.  There are 3 transaction modes available.

• Full - the method used by Aqua Data Studio 9.0 with one transaction per row.
• Batch - for choosing the number of rows to import in a single transaction.
• Threshhold - for sending a commit to the database every desired number of seconds.

Import IO Performance

We’ve improved the performance of imports in two areas: read IO performance was improved with buffered reads, and transaction support to minimize commit operations.

Generate AquaScript

A button has been added to automatically generate an AquaScript to perform an import with the options chosen in the User Interface.  The AquaScript can be saved and executed at a later date or scheduled for execution in Aqua Data Server.

What's New for the Export Tool?

Export Tables to Individual Files

Export now allows exporting multiple tables at once into a folder, each table becoming a file within that folder.

  Export IO Performance

Export now has improved write IO performance with buffered writes to assist with database transactions and increasing export speed.

  Generate AquaScript

A button has been added to automatically generate an AquaScript to perform an export with the options chosen in the User Interface.  The AquaScript can be saved and executed at a later date or scheduled for execution in Aqua Data Server.
